Around 86% of MPs and 78% of the public believe that encouraging a flexible labour force is important in stimulating economic growth and the majority of these people also feel the government should make it easier for companies to adopt a flexible workforce approach.
So says new research commissioned by the Professional Contractors Group and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation – indicating considerable support for a trend that has already begun in many organisations.
However, this also represents a major challenge for facilities managers. ‘Ownership’ of workstations is no longer cast in stone, so the workplace needs to reflect the growing flexibility of the workforce. Hot desks are an obvious example, providing them is one thing, managing them quite another. Initially a ‘first come, first served’ basis was usually deemed adequate, but that’s not the way to maximise productivity or optimise space usage.
Causeway FM Facts Resource/Room Booking module offers a far better way, with total control and visibility of all bookable resources, backed by management reports to evaluate how efficiently space is being used. It also enables requesters to book directly from their Outlook calendars, or ‘grab a room on the fly’ using the Interactive Room Signs functionality.
So as flexible working moves to the next stage it pays to be ready for it with the right tools.
